Always learning, always attentive!
I am daily amazed at how much I do not know. A smart tradesman will throughout his life seek guidance from persons more knowledgeable more experienced than himself. He must tap the wisdom of trusted mentors and peers. In this profession that means collaboration with veteran farriers and veterinarians. I am and will continue to be a student of equine health care. This spirit of life-long learning allows me to offer the very best in care for my clients’ horses. Accordingly, no appointments are scheduled on Tuesdays as this day is set aside for professional development and study under the tutelage of an equine podiatrist and his farrier each with more than 40 years experience in equine health care.
Membership in professional groups is equally important to the professional farrier. As a member of both the American Farriers’ Association and the North Carolina Horseshoers’ Association, I support the tenants of education, certification, communication, research, and innovation. A commitment to education requires review of AAEP research, and continued professional reading.

I have an extreme admiration for horse owners whose love for their equine companions shows in everything that they do. I’m not talking about the superficial things here; the horse silhouette on the mailbox, the sticker in the window of the truck, or the “I love my horse” doormat. No, I am humbled by the acts of love that are the daily disciplined small acts that must be done; 5:00am rations, immunizations, annual physicals, cleaned and oiled tack, mucked stalls and clean shavings, clean forage, maintained fences, mowed paddocks, pest control, and the list goes on. What is amazing is not the length of the list, but the lengths to which you will go to accomplish everything on that list and more. These acts are the very essence of love for your horse.
